About Mamaroneck
Mamaroneck is a town in Westchester County, New York,
United States. Population of 28,967 at 2000 census. There are two
villages in the town: Larchmont and Mamaroneck village (part of which is
located in the city Rye). Most of the urban area is not located in the
village, is an unincorporated area, although the majority of the
population lives in villages.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has total area of 36.4 km
(14.0 sq mi). 17.1 km (6.6 sq mi) of it is land and 19.2 km (7.4 sq mi)
of which (52.85%) is water.
History and culture
City of Mamaroneck was purchased from Native American Chief Wappaquewam
and his brother Manhatahan by an Englishman named John Richbell is 1660.
During the American Revolutionary War in 1776, a British Loyalist
William Lounsbury was attacked and killed by a group of revolutionaries
led by John Flood. Several other skirmishes occurred that year between
loyalists and revolutionaries. A well-known historical figures who lived
in Mamaroneck include Bishop William Heathcote DeLancey and novelist
James Fenimore Cooper. Actor and choreographer Wayne Cilento lives in
Mamaroneck. This was the Mamaroneck that James Fenimore Cooper wrote his
first novel, a precaution. American artist Norman Rockwell attended
secondary school in Mamaroneck, and donated one of his paintings to
Mamaroneck High School. The painting now hangs as the school library.
Noted Broadway actress and choreographer Wayne Cilento lives in
Mamaroneck. Actor Matt Dillon is also Mamaroneck. In 1910, the course is
under the winged Foot Golf Club. The Golf Club was the location of 1997
PGA Championship and the 1929, 1959, 1974, 1984 and 2006 U.S. Open.
Demographics
From the 2000 census was 28,967 people, 10,929 households, and 7,748
families residing in the city. The population density was 1,689.5 / km
(4,377.5 / sq mi). 11,255 housing units had an average density of
656.4/km (1,700.8 / sq mi). The racial makeup, that the city was 88.93%
White, 2.80% Black or African American, 0.12% Native American, 3.12%
Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 2.91% other races, and 2.06% in two or
more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 10.92% of the
population.
Was 10,929 households, of which 35.6% are under the age of 18 living
with them 60.0% were married couples living together, 8.0% had a female
householder with no husband present, and 29.1% were non-families. 25.4%
of all households were made up of individuals and 10.5% had someone
living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household
size was 2.62 and the average family size was 3.15.
To this end, the population of the city spread out below 18-5.1% 26.1%
18-24, 29.7% 25-44, 24.3% from 45 to 64 and 14.8% who were 65 years of
age or older. The average age was 39 years. For every 100 females, 91.3
males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, was 87.2 for men.
The average income for a household in the town was $ 84,213 and the
median income for a family was $ 118,774. Males had an average income $
81,249 versus $ 42,703 for females. Per capita income in the city was $
57,822. Approximately 2.9% of families and 4.5% of the population were
below the poverty line, including 3.7% under the age of 18 and 7.1% of
those 65 or more.
